Human beings thrive on self expression. We express ourselves through our work, art, music, sports and in so many other ways. Most of our endeavours are expressions of ourselves. We would suffocate and die if we were not able to express.
All forms of expression are liberating, but we often don’t realise the liberating power of spontaneity
Spontaneity emerges from the freedom to be ourselves without the fear of judgement or ridicule. For our own well being, we must find safe spaces which allow us to be spontaneous. Spontaneity is also useful for building relationships. People are weary of seeing the masks and facades everyone wears. These are barriers between souls which are hungry for human connection.
We show up as our authentic self when we are spontaneous, and people love authenticity. The best part is when you are authentic and spontaneous, it inspires others to be authentic and spontaneous, and that brings people closer.
One important thing is to know the difference between spontaneity and impulsiveness.
For e.g., a person bursting into a victory dance after winning a race is spontaneity. But, is a person bursting with rage, shouting and screaming also spontaneity? Probably not. Both of them are actions in the moment, without any pre-planning. Both of them are a response to a very strong urge inside – first one is a response to the rush of happiness the person feels. The second one is a response to the flames of anger. The difference is in the impact on oneself and others. In the first one its positive, in the second its likely to be negative.
If the net outcome is positive then its spontaneity. If its negative it is impulsiveness. Keep this in mind as you practice spontaneity. Stay spontaneous, stay alive.
