When we drive our car to get to a certain destination, we are constantly aware of where exactly we need to reach. That will help us move in the right direction. However, our much bigger focus is on driving. We don’t want to get into an accident, or cross speed limits. More energy is spent on driving, because we know that if we drive properly we should reach the destination. Driving is the effort – the “doing”, and the destination is the goal / results.

Its critical to understand this difference between effort and results, especially in terms of how much control we have over each of them. We have full control over the effort, but we may or may not have full control over the results.

Secondly, remember to always keep your eye on the results, yet remain detached from them. This detachment does not mean that you don’t care about the result. It means that you understand that you may not have full control over them.

You don’t allow yourself to be consumed by the results, constantly worrying about whether you will achieve them or not.

You need to be consumed by the effort. It’s a difficult balance to achieve, but must be attempted. Be attached to the effort, not the result.

Leave no stone unturned in the effort you put in. Give your 100%. Asleep or awake, all your energy should be focussed on the effort you need to put in. As you get attached to the effort, it will become easier to detach from the results.

Remember Success = Talent x Effort x Chance

Out of these 3, Effort is 100% in your control. So focus on that. Let me leave you with an inspiring video of Virat Kohli putting in effort. All the best. https://twitter.com/imVkohli/status/1526185534975987712
